Happy Friday! April is indie author month, so this week, we’re giving some love to our favorites! (Because I’ve been asked in the past, an indie author is an independent author, meaning they self-publish.) Working in this community changed my life, and it ultimately led to me becoming an indie author myself. So, here are just a few of my favorites!

M. Lynn and Melissa A. Craven
I think I’ve been reading a book by these authors at all times for like five years straight now. They have books on their own and co-write together, not to mention multiple pen names for different genres, which means they have a ton to read! Under these names, they write clean fantasy.
Favorite co-written: Fae’s Return (Queen’s of the Fae Book 9)
Favorite M. Lynn: Dragon Rising
Favorite Melissa A. Craven: Emerge
Michelle MacQueen and Ann Maree Craven
See above explanation. 😂 Under these names, they write clean romance.
Favorite co-written: Dating Nashville
Favorite Michelle: Love is a Dance Step
Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison
These two also consume a large portion of my reading time. They co-write incredible series, but Robin also has a solo series that’s one of my favorites. They write upper YA/NA fantasy romance (fade-to-black).
Favorite co-written: Summer’s Rebellion
Favorite Robin: The Tempest Sea
Audrey Grey
Audrey was actually one of the first indie authors to be promoted here on Functionally Fictional. I was part of the book tour or release blitz for Oath Taker, and I have since devoured all of her books. She writes fantasy with various heat levels.
Favorite: Light Singer
Becky Moynihan
Her book Reactive was one of the first indie ARCs I ever requested and received, if not the first. The book blew me away, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It was Becky who really got me into reading indie books after having some… meh experiences before then. Her writing made me see just how amazing self-publishing could be, and that they could be just as good as traditionally published books. She writes paranormal romance and dystopian romance with various heat levels.
Favorite: Sun Touched (A Touch of Vampire Book 4)
Kimberly Readnour
If looking for some steamy romance, Kimberly is my go-to recommendation. I just absolutely adore her books!
Favorite: Behind the Count (Cessna U Book 2)
Emma Hart
She is another steamy romance author, but hers are more romantic comedies. They never fail to make me smile.
Favorite: Frenemies
