I want to really up my book-game in August because during the last two months I have been slacking. Here are the top five books I want to read next month:
1. A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir
This was released in June and I still haven’t been able to finish it. This is the third book in the An Ember in the Ashes series about a Roman Empire-like society. I love this series, so it’s really bothering me that it’s taking so long!
2. My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton
Another book released in June that I haven’t been able to read yet. The first book was hilarious and I heard this one is too. This is a Jane Eyre retelling, with ghosts. The writers take these well-known stories and completely alter them in funny, unexpected ways. A light amusing book is a nice change once in a while.
3. Seductive Poison by Deborah Layton
This is the story of a survivor of the Jim Jones cult. We are reading it for the Psychology Club. It sounds very intriguing and intense. I have a feeling it’s going to have to be one I read only during the day.
4. And I Darken by Kiersten White
I have yet to read anything by Kiersten White, but I’ve been told I will love her books. Due to a sale, I recently got the first two books in this trilogy. It’s fantasy, there’s a princess set on vengeance, and a defiant prince, who is the son of the opposing empire’s sultan. Basically, everything I like in a book.
5. Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas
Look at the title and cover. If you’ve been following any of these posts, you know that my favorite books are YA books involving royalty. This is about a young girl who was 23rd in line to the throne and, due to some tragic event, she becomes queen. She has to figure out how to rule, who to trust, etc. I cannot wait to read it. It’s been on my TBR since it came out in February of 2017!
