Happy Friday! The last Friday of the year… can you believe it?
This week’s prompt is comfort characters! Whether it’s because we personally relate to them or they just make us happy, most readers have at least a few characters they hold very close to their hearts. Here are some of mine!

Alexander Gideon Lightwood
From the first time I read The Mortal Instruments, I immediately connected with Alec. Throughout the books, he struggles to open up and accept himself, which I was also going through.
Over the years, I only grew to love him more. He will always be my number one comfort character.
Of course, I can’t share Alec without Magnus. Together, they are my favorite fictional characters of all time. Technically, Magnus is my top favorite in general, but Alec is my top comfort character.
Regardless, I usually just count them as one because Malec is everything.
Will Herondale, Jem Carstairs, & Tessa Grey
I’m just going to put them all together… because that’s how they should always be. Each time I read this series, it honestly feels like coming home. Again, it’s that familiar comforting feeling, even though their story is heartbreaking.
Have you ever read a book and just been like, “yup, we’d be best friends” about a character? Because that’s how I feel about Kenji. Between the way he tries to always be the positive one of the group but actually has all the feels to the way he passionately argues that Tangled is a masterpiece… I’m 100% certain we’d be the best of friends.
Okay, the entire inner circle, but Cassian is my favorite. He’s the… troublemaking, goof-off one of the group, but at the end of the day, he’s fiercely loyal and loves with his whole heart. He’ll do anything to protect those he loves. And despite his horrible childhood and past trauma, he’s genuinely so good.
I’ve read The Shadow Queen at least four times now, and I just adore it. It’s a dark and twisted version of Snow White, but there is something so comforting about the familiar story. And Lorelai is a huge part of that.
Dating Nashville is his book, but he appears as a side character in several of these authors’ other books. And each time he shows up, I’m so unbelievably happy.
He’s just… everything. He’s intense, but also loving and cares so much. And there’s just something deeply comforting about him that keeps me coming back to this series.
Who are some of your favorite comfort characters? Let me know in the comments and check out the other lists below!
