Hello, hello! Happy Friday! It’s that time again. This week’s topic is “Favorite Villains.” You can find the full list of weekly prompts, over at Something of the Book!
A good villain can really make or break a story. We all have that one bad guy we can’t help but love. Here are some of my favorites:
Rhysand (A Court of Thorns and Roses)
Oh, come on. Y’all knew this is where the list was going! Okay, so he’s not really a villain per se, but he definitely wasn’t one of the good guys in the first book. Hence, I’m counting it. Same with the next man on the list…
Warner (Shatter Me)
Look, I obviously have a type. The broody, secretly good guy who does what he does to protect those he cares about… It’s my weakness.
Sebastian Morgenstern (The Mortal Instruments)
Spoiler. Sorry, but the books have been out forever, and the show included it. I won’t go into details, though. There’s just so much sympathy for his circumstances–it’s heartbreaking. Plus, I had to include a villain from my favorite series!
Queen Irina (The Shadow Queen)
Irina is the evil sorceress queen in this Snow White retelling, but she’s written so well. She’s so powerful and wicked. I love it!
Maven Calore (Red Queen)
Oops, another spoiler. But the first book has been out for 4.5 years. If you haven’t read the first book and somehow didn’t see spoilers, just know I am still not over this betrayal. But I still can’t completely hate him for reasons I will not disclose. Go read the series and it will make sense.
Bonus: Favorite Movie Villains
The Winter Soldier (Captain America: Winter Soldier)
If you know me, you know how much I love him. I even named my wheelchair after him!! He is the best ever.
Ursula (The Little Mermaid)
I’m writing a retelling from her POV. Obviously she’s on the list.
The Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
I don’t know if he really counts as the “villain,” but I’m going with it. This goes for most Beauty and the Beast retelling (except Tamlin the Tool, obviously). I will always love this character and the meaning behind him.
Loki (Thor)
Okay, who doesn’t like Loki?? If you don’t, I don’t know if I can trust you… haha I’m kidding. Kind of.
Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean)
I still love these movies (the original three; I haven’t seen the newer two)! They heavily inspired my book The Nihryst and are the reason I have pirates in the story…
