I have already read a few books by Alexander, which were amazing. This one Escape did not disappoint either. I couldn’t wait to get to the ending to see how everything ended up.
Cody, the main character, wants to get picked to go somewhere amazing. He has learned everything there is to know about this place called Escape. He even sacrificed his phone and his parents getting mad at him for the potential opportunity. What Cody doesn’t know is that things don’t always add up, and twists and turns can happen. Read the book to find out what he gets himself into.
I absolutely love how Alexander made Cody out to be what every typical kid wants to be–famous. He wants to be known, and most people, even adults, can relate to that. This fact made it easy to relate to the main character about how some things work.
Alexander’s descriptions of scenes were so detailed that I felt like I was actually experiencing what Cody and his friends were going through. What would be even more intriguing would be to see the perspectives of the other kids involved in the storyline, especially during the competition.
Alexander is an author of scary stories, and this one did not disappoint. Of course, it was at a YA level and not adult, so it couldn’t be too scary. It did have me holding the book pretty tight at some scenes, though. The vividness of the descriptions helped with that.
I give this story a 5/5 star rating. I highly recommend anyone who likes to read a suspenseful twisted story to read this book. Again, it is YA, so it isn’t as intense as some of the adult scary books.
