What happens when the girl of your dreams turns out to be the very one to destroy them?
With the sting from not being drafted still fresh, Dalton Boyd gets sent to the strictest coach with the most rules in summer league ball.
Was it mentioned the coach also serves as his host family? No? Well, everyone knows the player staying at the coach’s house has the most brutal regime.
But here’s the thing.
Dalton wouldn’t be in this situation had he not followed his heart and ended up ghosted. As much as he’d like to change the past, he can’t.
So, he sets a goal to stay out of trouble long enough to get through this summer and impress the coach and scouts.
It’s an obtainable goal. Or so Dalton thought until walking into his coach’s home and seeing the reason for rule number one—don’t touch the coach’s daughter—is none other than Cassie Greenburg, his rule follower ghost.
Summer just got a whole lot challenging.
Book four in the Cessna U Wildcat series, Caught Looking, is a forbidden, second chance, stand-alone sports romance. If you like sexy, hot baseball players from the wrong side of the track, click to add Dalton Boyd to your TBR!
Review
*I received a free copy of this book for my honest opinion.*
I read Dalton and Cassie’s prequel short story, On Deck, at the beginning of 2020. Meaning, I waited over two years for this book… and it was so worth it.
This book is intense, and it just hit a lot differently that the others. I absolutely loved it! I do want to warn readers that there is a lot of religion in the story, with Cassie being controlled by her father and boyfriend (not Dalton) who think women should serve men. That is NOT the message of the book. But that is how she grew up, and it’s about her realizing this is wrong. It’s a frustrating situation but very realistic.
Cassie’s development in this book is just wonderful. She is naïve but wanting to grow and become independent. There were times I just wanted to yell at her to stand up for herself. She’s also the most relatable female character for me in this series, which likely contributed to these strong feelings. I understood her choices and behavior. I loved seeing her figure out that she needed to fight for herself and what she wanted.
Dalton… I don’t know where to begin with Dalton. He’s the epitome of broody bad boy with a secret heart of gold. And I just adore how he treats Cassie. He’s the first to really tell her she can do whatever she wants, to encourage her to be her own person. We also get to see him finally open up to some teammates, which was great. The entire time, you can’t help but want him to find happiness after such a hard childhood.
Together, they are amazing. The chemistry is undeniable. They truly are their best selves around each other.
I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. I ended up reading it all pretty much in two sittings, which is fast for me right now with how much I have going on. It’s well paced, and the writing flow is great. Everything always feels so natural in Readnour’s books.
I highly recommend this whole series for those who like steamy college/sports romance. The second book, Behind the Count, will always be my favorite, but I think Caught Looking might be next! I can’t wait to see what Readnour does now!
