Hey everyone! Happy Tuesday! I know I’m late, but I’m going to set my reading intentions for 2022. Here are my top 10 goals for the year.
1. Finish all of the books on my TBR in my possession.
I know this is the bane of every avid reader’s existence. I probably have about 10 physical books and maybe 20 books on my kindle that I haven’t read yet. I want to finish them all before I buy more.
2. Read more books by Black authors.
I realized earlier this year that I don’t read very many authors of color, especially Black authors. I need to change that and expand my network of authors
3. Read every day.
I used to do this out of habit. Now, I feel like I only read as a favor or to write a post. I want to find time to read every day so I can put myself in a better headspace
4. Read at least 12 new authors.
I have been horrible at keeping up with new popular authors. I want to keep up to date with current reading trends.
5. Read more nonfiction.
I have only read nonfiction if I had to for classes. You can borrow techniques from other genres, so I am committed to learning everything I can this year.
6. Take more notes.
I have always admired people who write in their books. It allows you to see how your thoughts have changed through the years. It’s almost like a time capsule for your thoughts.
7. Start a quote book.
I got the idea from A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. I want to keep a journal of all of my favorite quotes from books, and then if I have kids or become famous, they can have it to look back on when I’m gone.
8. Complete a Reading Challenge.
They have all of these reading challenges on different book blogs, and I’ve never completed any of them. I’m horrible about not finishing big things, and it’s a habit I want to break.
9. Reread some favorites.
I normally hate rereading books because I remember too much, and then it’s not as enjoyable to read because I know what happens. I learned a few years ago though that you can catch little details you may have missed the first time. I’m going to reread The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare before I finally read Chain of Gold.
10. Read 75 books.
I read somewhere once that a good writer should read at least 75 books a year. I’ve been trying ever since, but I’ve never managed to do it. Hopefully, this will be the year.
What are your reading goals for this year? Do you have any books you are anticipating? Let me know in the comments!
