*I received a free advanced copy of this book from the authors for my honest review.*
Dating Washington is the second book in the Discovering Me series, but it can be read as a standalone. However, I highly recommend reading Dating Nashville and the Redefining Me series first to get a better idea of where the characters come from.
Dating Washington is out today!! All the books are currently included on Kindle Unlimited!!
Asher’s mom is the President of the United States. She’s serving directly after his father’s two consecutive terms. Almost his entire life has been spent in the spotlight as the first son. Similarly, Kenny’s no stranger to attention as the son of a senator. He’s also a star hockey player bound for the NHL.
The two grew up together as best friends. That is until Asher came out to the world as gay when they were thirteen. Kenny’s extremely conservative parents wanted him to have nothing to do with Asher from then on, but Kenny also pulled away because of his own internal struggles.
As they’re finishing high school and preparing for their futures, they are inevitably reunited. Kenny dated Nicky in secret for two years, but when the latter started dating superstar Beckett Anderson, an image of Kenny and Nicky spread through the tabloids. Despite their past, they remain friends, and Nicky, Becks, and Wylder push the two boys together. Now, Kenny must decide if he’s ready for the world to know the real him, and Asher has to decide whether he can trust his former best friend.
I’ve been staring at this screen for so long trying to figure out how to start this review. These two authors continue to amaze me with each book they release. It’s no secret how much I love Becks and Nicky or how excited I was for Dating Nashville, but now I love Asher and Kenny just as much!
Kenny! The awful on-and-off boyfriend of my precious Nicky in the first series! I love a good redemption story, if done right. These two did it right. It was so so good! I was skeptical about Kenny being a main character, but now I love him. And Asher is just adorable.
Like the other books in the two series, these characters deal with very real, emotional issues while trying to figure out who they are in this world. The story and characters are so well written and developed. The internal struggles they each face really hit home.
It’s also amusing and fun, though. Becks, of course, is always there for some comedic relief. He’s ridiculous, and I love it. The authors do a wonderful job of balancing that light, cute love story with the heavier conflicts.
While it technically took me a while to read, I actually read it in 2-3 sittings. I’ve just been so busy. It was killing me not to just read all the way through! It easily kept me interested the entire time. I would absolutely recommend this book (and all the others)! I cannot wait to start the next book, Dating Texas.
Also, there may or may not be a character named after me, which is basically the coolest thing ever!! So keep an eye out for “Caitlin!”
