I’ve always liked fantasy, but up until recently I had read very light fantasy that I didn’t even know was considered part of the genre. However, in the last year, I have really started getting into it and love it! YA fantasy is where it’s at, friends! That being said, there is so much I haven’t read.
After reading this list, if you have any suggestions, let me know!
Here are the top 10 fantasy novels or series I want to read:
1. A Song of Fire and Ice – George R.R. Martin
This is a given. I love the show Game of Thrones, and I own the first five books. They always intimidated me before, but now that I’m getting more into fantasy I think I’d love it even more. My goal is to read at least the first one this year.
2. The Lord of the Rings – J.R.R. Tolkien
I have no excuses for this one. It’s one of my absolute favorite movie series, and has been since I was 12.
3. The Chronicles of Narnia – C.S. Lewis
I know this is technically a children’s series, but I never read it as a child and I feel left out. I loved the movies and the concept. I think I would have loved them and I want to experience that.
4. Three Dark Crowns – Kendra Blake
This book has been sitting on my shelf for over a year. I think my subconscious knows I will love it so much that I will have a hard time waiting for the next ones, so I keep putting it off. The second one is out now, and I believe the third is being released this year. I may bump it up higher on my TBR.
5. Ruined – Amy Tintera
Again, this book has been on my shelf forever. I have no excuses. I’ve heard it’s fantastic. The third book was just released last month. I just need to do it.
6. Avalon series – Marion Zimmer Bradley
This is one of my best friend’s favorites. She has been telling me for a really long time to read it, and I got the ebook Mists of Avalon like a year ago… Still haven’t started it. I love Arthurian legend so I am excited to read this soon!
7. Falling Kingdoms – Morgan Rhodes
Another book that’s already on my shelf. I believe there are six books now in this series, with the latest one just being released a few months ago. It kept popping up as an ad and as a suggestion on various sites, so I bought the first one. It sounds like something I’d absolutely love. You all should know by now that my favorite books are those with kingdoms/royalty. It’s kind of my thing.
8. The Grisha Trilogy/Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo
I have heard nothing but good things about both the trilogy and duology, so I’ve added them both. They’re highly recommended in the YA community. I actually started Shadow and Bone a couple months ago via Scribd, but then got busy and distracted by other new releases… my bad.

9. Shades of Magic series – V.E. Schwab
I have never read Victoria Schwab. There, I said it. This is always very surprising, especially with how popular and loved her books are. I did recently receive a free ebook of A Darker Shade of Magic, so hopefully I can get into it soon!
10. Graceling – Kristin Cashore
This book has been on my TBR since before I knew what TBR even stood for. It’s been years and now there’s a whole trilogy and I’ve heard it’s fantastic. I don’t know why I keep putting it off; I know I’m going to love it.
I love Victoria Schwabās books! Her Shades of Magic series is amazing but I would also recommend This Savage Song & Our Dark Duet and Vicious & Vengeful (that one hasnāt been released yet)
I personally love Sarah J Maasā books, especially her Throne of Glass series. I also really like Leigh Bardugoās books. With the Six of Crows duology as my favorite
