Cait’s Review of “Accidentally Amy” by Lynn Painter

IT STARTED WITH A CUP…

Isabella Shay is usually a very honest person.

But when she’s running late for her first day at a dream job and the barista yells for “Amy” 3x with no answer, she does the unthinkable.

Izzy takes that PSL.

It’s the exact drink she ordered and paid for, only waaaay further ahead in the line, so she mutters “I’m Amy” and grabs the cup.

But when she turns around and runs directly into the most attractive man she’s ever seen, spilling the drink all over his GQ shirt and tie, she ends up having the ultimate meet-cute. Sparks fly and things feel beyond promising until he says the words, “See you tomorrow, Amy.”

Uh, oh – she’ll definitely have to straighten him out the following day.

Only when she gets to her new office and meets the VP of her department, it is none other than Blake Phillips – the hottie from Starbucks. And the man might’ve been charming to “Amy,” but he is an arrogant grump to Izzy, an arrogant grump who dos not find her explanation funny at all.

Review

I absolutely ADORED this book! It was so fun and cute, with just the right amount of steam. It’s an adult romance, but it has the same feel of an upper YA romance. So, if you like YA but want something a little more… adultier, definitely check this one out.

Izzy is so bubbly and the definition of sunshine. Blake is more serious and seen as the grumpy, arrogant boss. Yet, he can’t help but be drawn to her from the beginning. They have an instant connection, and despite the wrong-name fiasco, they start becoming friends pretty quickly. That’s one reason I really enjoyed this book; the author didn’t drag out the miscommunication trope just to keep up the drama. The story didn’t need it, and I was so happy when he found out the truth early on. Seeing them move on from that to become friends was perfect.

The two also basically state from the start that they’re attracted to one another but nothing can happen between them because he’s her boss. So, Izzy comes up with a list of rules they can’t break, like no being alone together. This leads to a lot of longing and tension, and obviously they don’t follow the rules well. But they never fully cross the line. They keep that boundary while growing closer, which leads to them falling for each other before anything physical happens.

It was such a refreshing read. The pacing was good, the writing was done well, and I could not stop reading. In fact, I had started with the audiobook, and when I couldn’t keep listening the following day for reasons, I got the ebook so I could continue on my phone.

I loved The Do-Over, so I was hoping I would enjoy Painter’s other books… I’m now obsessed and can’t wait to read the others. If they’re half as good as these two, I’ll be more than happy. Accidentally Amy easily became a new favorite, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being one of my top reads of the year.
