Christopher’s Review of “Battle Ground” by Jim Butcher

By: Christopher Bartlett

If you’ve never seen an episode of TV that is split into two parts where you have to wait a whole week to see the second part, Jim Butcher’s Battle Ground is about as close as you’ll get. Although, I doubt any episode of TV has come close to being as good as this book was.

Butcher starts the reader’s journey with Dresden bringing the reader up to speed quickly as we are thrust into the action just as quickly. Similar to how I was alluding to the first part of a two-part TV episode building to the action in the second part. Even as it plans to leave you waiting a whole week for it. Though in this case, it is more like you ended part one at the end of the season and had to wait what seemed like forever for the season premier for part two.

Season premiers though are always intense and exciting. Battle Ground is no different, and when a season premier is a part two, it is even more intense. Butcher doesn’t fail to deliver with emotional ups and downs with all of his characters, making the reader laugh, cry, shout, cheer, and even swear.  When the last page is turned, the reader will also be sad because it will be over so soon. A common problem with all The Dresden Files books to date that I have read.

There is no way I can’t give this book anything less than five quilled bookmarks out of five quilled bookmarks. I’m just thankful I am in the middle of getting a small fix of Dresden in the novella I am reading by Jim Butcher now since the wait will be so long till the next full-length adventure. Although, another favorite author of mine keeps tapping at my reading window lately, but that is a different review for another time.
