A romance interrupted by tragedy sets two people on different paths in Wattpad superstar Alex Light’s latest YA romance.
Eden had her best friend Katie—she didn’t need anyone else. But then there was Truman.
Katie’s older brother, the artist. The recluse. The boy with the innocent smile and the dangerous eyes.
Eden had never really known Truman—not until the night of Katie’s accident. That was the night they’d finally let each other into their orbits—only to have the sky come crashing down on them.
With Katie in the hospital and Truman fleeing from his grief without a word, Eden is left alone to grapple with her own pain. But when Truman returns to the city, can Eden let him back into her life knowing that their first kiss is what tore their world apart?
Wattpad superstar Alex Light is back with another poignant romance perfect for fans of Jennifer Dugan and Laura Taylor Namey.
Review
This book… hurt my feelings. It was truly heartbreaking to see Eden and Truman deal with this tragedy. It was beautiful.
I adore Light’s storytelling abilities. Meet Me in the Middle sucked me right in, just like her other books, and it was so incredibly difficult to put down. I had to because, you know, sleep and work. But the entire time, I was thinking about these characters. I NEEDED to know how things would go.
Best friend’s brother is one of my favorite tropes. It typically leads to a lot of drama and secrets, and a lot of the time, the girl is barely noticed by him at first. That wasn’t the case with Eden and Truman though. Throughout the story, we get more and more of their past, and seeing them become friends was wonderful. I loved being able to see how they really understood each other.
Everything about this book was well done. However, I was left with mixed feelings about the ending. I’ll put some spoilers at the very end with a warning. I understood the ending, it made sense and was good; I was just hoping for something a little different. Hence the mixed feelings.
Regardless, I highly recommend this one. Especially if you like books that destroy your heart in the best way. I sobbed so hard. It’s one of those books where I was like, “This ruined my life… you should read it.”

The reason I’m iffy about the ending is because it’s categorized as a romance and there wasn’t a HEA. In the end, they decide that this tragedy is just too much to handle, and neither want to start a relationship because of it. Especially when both feel guilty for Katie’s accident. They’re struggling to get past it. And honestly, I get it. I respect it. It’s realistic, and it showed how much both had grown.
It was left open, kind of hinting that there was a chance they could try again in the future after getting their lives together. Again, this makes sense. They’re around 18, so it’s a very real ending. I just personally prefer closure and happily ever afters (or at least happily for nows). Because it’s labeled as a romance, and because I’ve read (and loved) Light’s other books, I expected it. I kind of wish there had been an epilogue that showed them reuniting in the future, just to show it’s possible.
Overall though, it didn’t take away from this beautiful, heart-wrenching story. It’s a personal preference.
