Cait’s Review of “Burnout” by Rebecca Jenshak

Blurb

He’s the hot, tattooed bad boy that I traded insults with…and now he wants my help?

Knox Holland is in a jam. After an incredible first year on the pro motocross circuit, he should be on top of the world. Instead, his bad reputation has landed him without a team. He’s untouchable and desperate to turn it around.

Which is how he ends up at my gym asking me to train him. As a college gymnast with two Olympic medals to my name, I know a thing or two about the pressure to succeed. Last season I choked and then injured myself before I could show the world that I’m not a twenty-year-old has-been.

Focused on the future, I can’t afford to get distracted. But I recognize the desperation in Knox’s eyes, and I can’t say no to him, either.

It should have been an easy task, but nothing about Knox is easy. One minute we’re arguing, and the next I’m enjoying his shirtless handstands a little too much.

Falling for him would be a mistake…

Review

I saw an ad for a book that sounded really good and because I have no restraint, I immediately clicked on it to add to my list. But it turned out to be the third in a series, and I can’t read out of order, so I went to the series page… and realized I’d had the second book downloaded for several months and just hadn’t started yet. Since two books clearly sounded great to me, I started from the first one, which was Burnout.

And it was so, so good. I literally could not stop reading. I loved Knox and Avery. He was so broody and mad at the world, but even from the beginning, I knew he was a good guy. The way he takes care of his family melted my heart. He practically raised his younger brother, despite not being the oldest, and seeing them together was wonderful. He might seem grumpy to the outside world, but with his brothers, he’s like a loving parent.

Avery, on the other hand, isn’t grumpy, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling her sunshine. She’s sassy in the best way, and I love that she refused to take anyone’s crap. The two instantly had a strong attraction to one another; the chemistry was great. And I adored how they became friends first, working with each other. Through this, you could really see them growing. He helped her get past her fear of failure, and she helped pull him out of his shell.

They were just so fun. It was a light romance that was easy to read, and it kept me wanting more the entire time. I’d been in a horrible slump the past year or so, taking forever to read a book. I finished this this one in like two days. And then, I immediately started the next one, which I’ll review soon!
