Jackie Myers is a fraud. Or she might be a genius—the jury’s still out. The thing is, she secretly runs “pleasebreakmyheart,” a gone-viral account aimed at breaking hearts and ending relationships—and she just used it to break up her insufferable eternal nemesis’s picture-perfect relationship.

Wilson is the buttoned-up, type-A assistant manager of her nightmares—but it turns out he’s also, apparently, a really great boyfriend.

So with her conscience (and paycheck) on the line, Jackie decides there’s only one thing to do: She’s going to help Wilson win his ex-girlfriend back. Which should be easy, considering Jackie hates him…right?

Review

I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy and dark romance lately, so I decided to take a break and listen to a random YA romance audiobook. I saw this newer one from Alex Light and jumped right in. I didn’t even know what it was about when I started, but I loved The Upside of Falling.

This book was exactly what I needed. I’ve been in a reading slump for most of the last year, and this genuinely pulled me right out! I finished it in two days, and since then, I’ve already read three and a half other books. It was a lighter, fun romance, but it still hit important topics about growing up, finding your passion, and family bonds. It was so easy to get into, and I didn’t want to stop.

Jackie works in an arcade restaurant, where she’s been demoted to wearing a frog costume for children’s parties. All she wants is her job as a waitress back so she can save enough money to buy a car and go on a cross-country road trip with her best friend before said friend goes off to college at the end of the summer. The one thing standing in her way is her new boss… who also happens to be her work nemesis who got her in trouble to begin with.

Through all of this Jackie’s anonymous blog about handling breakups starts gaining attention. At first, it seems like a great turn of events. Especially considering she has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She thinks it may lead to something more, but when it causes trouble for those around her, she begins to question it all.

Now, she’s trying to fix the damage, which means working directly with one who’s been hurt because of it––Wilson. Guilt eats her up, and she’s determined to help him win back his ex-girlfriend. But the more time they spend together, the more she starts to see the real man behind the pain-in-the-butt manager she’s come to loathe. And she realizes he’s actually the perfect boyfriend.

It’s Not Me, It’s You is such a fun, cute read. Yet, it still had me tearing up a time or two. It was one I didn’t want to end, but I couldn’t stop listening. I highly recommend it to those who like YA romance. I will honestly probably reread it at some point because I loved it so much.
