Manuela’s Review of “The Cursed Soul” by K.C. Smith

By: Manuela Soares

I love retellings and love reading new takes on classic favorites; this was so good! The start was a little slow, but it picked up, and I got sucked into the story and the world. It’s got so many tropes that I enjoy reading and the world-building is phenomenal. The map, in the beginning, helped me keep track of things, and this map is beautiful! The characters were also fantastic, I loved Doraan, Kamira, and Cormac, and how the relationship between them grew and flourished. One of the many great things about this is that there isn’t any romantic romance between the leads. I can’t remember the last time I read something that didn’t include some degree of it. This lack of romantic entanglement makes the MCs seem stronger to me because I’m not wondering how they’re going to change as they evolve as a romantic couple. I could read them as is and see the found family shine.

The magic system in this was also fantastic and I loved learning about it. This is a dual POV which is great as it adds so much depth and enjoyment to the story. This is the first in a series and I can’t wait to see where the adventure takes these guys next.

This review is also on the FATL Bookstagram.
