I was given an arc for my honest review.
The Secret of the Serpent is the second book in the Hearts of Maya series. The story picks up immediately where the first book left off. Cree and Camila have traveled to the Grasslands to figure out what the Serpents know about the evil force who is trying to destroy the land of Maya. Meanwhile Xio and Holt travel to find out how to forge the weapon that will save them all.
I loved how readers saw the characters grow not only in strength, but also as people throughout the book. Each character learns to embrace who they are and discovers where they belong. Readers find out more about the Serpents and see the beauty of their culture. The world building is amazing and I can’t wait to learn more about the different groups of Fae in Maya and their lives.
The Serpents have Cotals (Aztec version of dragons) that choose them to be their riders. This book also has Fae, Found Family, and Fated Mates. It has diverse characters and LBGTQIA+ representation.
The pacing was amazing. There was a great mix of action and romance. There were also plenty of humorous and somber parts in the book, which I loved.
People who prefer clean romances should not read this book. It’s about a 4/5 in terms of spicy scenes. They start pretty early in the book and are generously sprinkled throughout. If you enjoy spice however, the scenes are amazing.
Overall, if you love Fantasy Romance series, especially if you are a fan of the popular books in the New Adult genre, I encourage you to read these books immediately, but as a warning it ends on a massive cliffhanger.
My rating is 4/5 stars only because I didn’t love it as much as my last five-star read. The Secret of The Serpent is available now to read with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. You can find it here.
Happy reading!
