Manuela’s Review of “The Confessions of Hemingway Jones” by Kathleen Hannon

By: Manuela Soares

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was one hell of a read! This is a must-read if you’re a fan of stories with a little bit of sci-fi, horror, supernatural elements, and elements of Frankenstein. This YA Sci-Fi opens with a letter/confession from Hemmingway Jones stating that the following story is not a diary but a confession and that he’s “the bad guy. Don’t forget that.” Being told upfront that the MC is the bad guy is always fascinating because I don’t always remember that as I read and sometimes it influences how you read a character’s actions in the story.

Hemmingway is a teenager, who inadvertently kills his father and then uses his connection to a biotech lab where he works, to bring his father back to life. Naturally, things don’t go as planned and Hemmingway faces an even bigger moral, ethical, and physical dilemma. This is told in such a way that captures the reader’s attention and keeps it without dragging things out or over-complicating things. I really enjoyed Hannon’s writing style and storytelling, it was such a great take on a classic theme and executed wonderfully.

A massive thank you to Kathleen Hannon and R&R Book Tours for an eARC of this to read and review.
