Shifted by Roxanna Mason tells the story of Jacey Lange, a successful new designer in New York City. She comes home from Fashion Week to find her fiancé in bed with her assistant Lexi. Crushed, she moves back into her old apartment with her best friend, Leon. After a bet is made with her twin sister to go on five dates in order to get her old bedroom back. She learns what she wants in love. Her whole world changes as she discovers the truth about the most important person in her life, her best friend.
This book helped me get out of my current slump. There weren’t any lulls in the story. None of the dates went on too long. Each of the love interests were interesting in their own way. I absolutely adored the friendship between Jacey and Leon. They were relatable. I wanted to sit in their apartment and share a bottle of wine.
The only aspect I didn’t like was that I expected the shifter element to be more prevalent since it is a shifter romance. This was my first shifter romance, so I acknowledge this might be common and I didn’t know. I also expected it to be spicier. There was one scene, and they focused more on feelings than explicit descriptions. I’m excited for the next book. I didn’t mind. My impressions of shifter romances were that they tended to be more graphic. The friendship made up for it though.
The second book, Shattered, is due to be released later this year. It is supposed to be darker and have more spice. It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.
Overall, I would give Shifted a 4/5 stars. The pacing was good. The characters were engaging, and it was a fun example of friends-to-lovers. I expected the shape-shifting aspect to be more prominent in the story and wanted more.
