Nadia

Normally, I have no trouble avoiding the cocky football gods on campus, but Derrick Asher refuses to be ignored. Bad enough he’s taking up all the space in one of my final psych classes, but then he dares me to get to know him instead of writing him off. The audacity. I want to stay unaffected, but when he smiles at me, all I can see is a future I’ve never imagined… and a heartbreak I need to avoid.

Derrick

I’m a single season away from the draft, and I’ve never had a problem making football my only priority. Until her. From the first moment our eyes locked across the class, I knew she’d change my life. Nadia Blackwood is beautiful and prickly and absolutely done with athletes. Her walls are fierce, but I’ll do whatever it takes to prove I’m the one she can trust.

Review

I started reading Rule Breaker (book 1) after seeing it on Instagram, but about halfway through, I stopped to read this prequel novella first. They can be read as standalones, but there were enough references to this novella in the other book that I wanted to know what they were talking about. It wasn’t necessary; you don’t need to read the prequel to jump in, nor do you really need to read them in order technically. I just didn’t want to wait to read it next.

I’m so glad I took the time to read this one. It was really good and a fairly quick read. I didn’t want to stop.

Nadia and Derrick had an instant connection, and while I’m not usually a fan of insta-love or shorter stories, I fully enjoyed Game Changer. I loved seeing Derrick try so hard to get to know Nadia. He’s this big, tough athlete, but he worked so hard to win her attention.

The chemistry was perfect and steamy. Despite it being shorter, the story felt well developed. The reason I tend to avoid novellas and short stories is because I’m usually left wanting more, feeling like they were lacking depth and development. Game Changer was not like that. It was a full story with great characters and plot. I wanted more because I loved them so much, not because it felt incomplete.

It was a fun football romance that made me even more eager to jump back into Rule Breaker and continue the series. As I type this, I’ve already finished that book too. I seriously couldn’t stop reading. I’ll review it soon!
