From the start, Hogg makes a lofty claim that he “created a book that was meant to be a page-turner and unputdownable.” In a surprising turn of events, he wrote the truth. This is a page-turner and while it was a little slow to get into for me, it was one that was difficult to put down. It manages to suck you in and keep you reading. It didn’t go where I thought it was going in the beginning, but where it went was so much better! Faythe’s stance and overall personality are one that would blend in well in our modern world, but in the times that this takes place, where women and girls were meant to be seen and not heard, she’s an outlier.
Hogg did a fantastic job with these characters and the overall story. His writing is very descriptive, definitely a show not tell story, and he manages to immerse readers in the times long past in a way that isn’t stuffy, boring, or dreadful; not always an easy task in historical fiction stories. The chapters are fairly short and it goes back and forth between two storylines that exist at the same time. It sounds a bit odd, but it’s done really well and will make you invest in the story and characters.
This is an overall fantastic start to a series, I’ll be keeping my eye out for the next installment.
A big thanks to R&R Book Tours & James T. Hogg for a copy of this to read and review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your review of “Girl With A Knife Book One: Assault” by James T. Hogg. The way you described the immersive writing style and the captivating characters has definitely piqued my interest. I’m curious to know more about the two storylines that exist at the same time – how did they intertwine and enhance the reading experience for you? Also, with the promising start to the series, what are your expectations or hopes for the next installment?
