Stephanie’s Review of “Cold Iron Heart” by Melissa Marr

By: Stephanie Wyatt

Cold Iron Heart by Melissa Marr tells the story of Thelma Foy, a young independent woman living in New Orleans in the 1800s. Thelma was born with Sight, which means she can see the Fae that live among the Mortals and torture them for their amusement. She has vowed she will never marry and have a child so that they will not have to fear death from fairies who don’t want to be seen.

Irial is the King of the Dark Court and finds himself enchanted by Thelma when he sees her trying to sell her jewelry to a shop owner. He decides he must know her. They find themselves caught in a centuries-long battle between the Summer and Winter Courts.

I loved this book because I got to get to know some characters better. I have always been curious about the other Winter Girls and so it was nice to learn about Rika. Beira has always been one of the most interesting villains to me so it was nice to see a different side of her.

Melissa Marr always has a way of making me appreciate bittersweet endings while still creating amazing love stories. This novel is no exception. All of the characters are relatable and compelling. It was a quick read. It’s under 300 pages. There are some steamy scenes, but they aren’t too explicit.

Cold Iron Heart is a prequel to Wicked Lovely and made me want to go reread all of the books. I honestly think that this is one of the best Fae series out today. I’m so excited the universe is expanding. If you love all things Fae. I encourage you to read these. They have all types of romances, court intrigue, and amazing friendships. Also, the main series is more like a series of companion novels so you can read them as stand-alone novels.

Overall, It was amazing to be a part of the world again and checked all of my boxes. I would give it a 4/5 only because I wished some parts were fleshed out more. You can find Cold Iron Heart wherever you buy your books.

Happy Reading!
